Meet Mike

My name is Mike Alderson Jr. and despite my last name, I am a (mostly) life long resident of St. Mary's County. I was born at Patuxent River Naval Air Station Hospital in 1969, and was raised in the southern end of the county. I was educated in St. Mary's County public schools from Ridge Elementary to Great Mills High School. After my graduation in 1987 I left for Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, where I graduated as the Honor Man for my platoon. I served with the 2nd Light Armored Infantry Battalion during Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm as an LAV-25 gunner. I came home after Desert Storm, moved to Florida for several months then eventually came home to my roots.

I met my wife Andrea, a 7th District girl, at a friend's house in Piney Point in late 1991. 31 years later we now make our home in Coltons Point with our sons, Sean and Andrew and our rescue dog Sable. I am currently employed as a project planner at Automated Graphic Systems where I have worked for a little over 29 years.

Over the years I have become more and more involved in my community because I believe that we all need to try and make the world a bit better as we go through life. I started my involvement as a youth soccer coach with my oldest son when he was 6. I coached in the Northern Soccer league, acted as a division manager and eventually was elected to the board of directors. As my time with youth soccer was growing to a close I became more and more involved with the 7th District Optimist Club. As a club member I have served as a program chairman for several events including the Blessing of the Fleet. I have also served as treasurer, vice president, and president. In 2022, I was nominated then selected to serve on the Governor's "Fort to 400" commission. This commission is tasked with the planning and implementation of a statewide celebration to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Maryland. I intend to remain as active as I can if I am elected as Commissioner. Service over self.

I am a life long Republican and I have always had an interest in politics dating back to the Iran Hostage Crisis during the Carter administration; but as I have grown older, the fire to actually be an integral part of the process has grown. I feel that now is the time for me to enter the political world because I perceive that from the halls of Leonardtown to the halls of Congress, we have lost sight of the most basic principles that this country was founded upon. I just hope that I can be a part of the re-discovery of the Great American Experiment.
